Day 5: Alcatraz, and Cable Car Riding
WHAT A DAY! We woke up early and got all ready. Mom and grandma and I all wore our matching Alcatraz sweatshirts haha. And so we jumped in the car and drove down to pier 33 to board the cruise to Alcatraz island. We waited out on the dock for a little while waiting for our boat to come. And grandpa finally found an egg mcmuffin. He had seriously been talking about finding one of those the whole trip haha. And then we got to get in line, they took our picture and we boarded boat. We went to the top deck because I wanted to stand out on the top. It was so beautiful! Looking out at the San Francisco skyline is just amazing! And so we docked at Alcatraz, and it was BEAUTIFUL! You would think that it would just be ugly and broken down, but it's surprisingly vibrant and the flowers and gardens are insane! We stopped for s little introduction and then we started the walk up the island. It was really really nice weather! And then we got to go in the prison and take this guided audio tour. Ok guys. Hands down one of the best parts of the trip. It was seriously one of the coolest things ever! So much history, and you're literally walking where those prisoners once did. It's absolutely insane. And then we walked around the rest of the island and watched this cool video (which my grandparents slept through haha) and then headed back to the dock. We hopped back on the boat with 560 other people (we heard them counting) haha. And I was absolutely exhausted haha. And then we got the pictures they took of us and decided we were going to go get food. And then this guy stopped us on the street and convinced us to let him bike us up to our eating place. And so grandpa and grandma sat in one little cart and mom dad and I sat in another and these two guys biked us through the city. I felt absolutely ridiculous haha. It was hilarious and so strange. And they took us to this little mexican restaurant. They gave us our food and it was so much! It was really good, there was just so much of it haha. So we all left feeling stuffed to the brim. And then we walked over to where ou can ride a cable car. We bought tickets and waited in this forever long line. Seriously it was so long and by this time it was like 5:00 and our legs felt like they were going to give out. But we stuck it out and we made it on the cable car and I got to ride hanging onto the outside poles. What a dream come true! It was amazing. So cool to just have your hair blowing in the wind and your just wizzin past all of the beautiful buildings and scenery. It's like something you see in the movies! And then we got off at the halfway point and went into the cable car museum. It was actually super cool to see how everything worked! All of it is underground and really cool. And then we walked over to another cable car pick up spot. We waited there f o r e v e r. All of us were just about dying haha. Except my mom. She is always perky haha. And we watched a bunch of cable cars pass, we even asked a UPS man for a ride haha, but eventually we got on the cable car and they seriously crammed us on the middle like sardines! We made friends quick haha. And that took us back to where we had gotten on the car. So we hopped off and walked down the street. We saw a See's candy and of course had to stop in. They are actually all over San Francisco, fun fact haha. And then we walked back to our car which seemed like 27 million miles away haha. My feet are actually still numb, while typing this, from all the walking haha. And we finally got to the car and I fell asleep right away! And then we got back to the hotel and pretty much just hung out haha. We were so exhausted!
1. In my mind, Alcatraz feels creepy and haunted, so I'm glad it was actually pretty and interesting. :)
