Journal Post

I think I'm starting to understand that happiness doesn't come from the compliment the boy you like gives you, when you woke up at 5 in the morning to curl your hair and perfect your winged eyeliner. It's not the feeling that comes from being totally prepared, or trying to be "perfect". It's when you don't make plans. When you go to school football games and your team loses but you still cheer as a big family. It's when your friends stand up for you. It's when your ugly laugh comes out and your friends still accept you. It's when you hear people talking about and respecting the gospel. It's when you can have a spiritual conversation with your friends. It's when you smile at someone and they smile back. It's when you watch someone do what they love. It's when your mom vacuums your room for you, because she knows you love when your carpet is vacuumed. It's when you feel your heart beating and know you're alive.
So many people strive so hard to find happiness, what they don't understand, is that happiness is not a destination. Happiness is not something you will find after you lose weight. Happiness is not found after you put on your makeup and receive compliments. If you cannot find happiness in the moment you are sitting in right now, you need to rethink. Happiness is simple, yet so many people try to over complicate it. If you look up the definition of happiness, it will not say pleasing others, attempting perfection, or a destination to be strived for. It will say a place of contentment with your life. When you experience something that creates a spark in your heart. If you cannot find happiness where you are right now, I promise you will not find happiness when you get to wherever you are trying to go. Happiness is not fake. Happiness if not superficial. Happiness is joy, love, contentment. Men are that they might have joy.
