Numbers
Life has always been a game of numbers
And each number seems to hold so much pressure
At young ages, they count your words and steps
The next step up you start counting the number of friends in your group
Then you step into High School
And the numbers start to weigh heavily
The next number you're counting is the one on the scale
And the number you weigh always seems to weigh you down
And then your parents count on you to keep your grade percent high
All the while trying to keep your stress levels low
Then you go to work and add up your hours
Only to realize that your numbers come up short
But people are counting on you
So you count to three and add a smile to your face
All the while counting the hours until you can sleep
Then add mental illness and disease in there
My life depends on numbers that never add up
And my timing has to be square
The lists multiply and I can't help but wonder
Why have we let numbers overrule our thinking
We count on ourselves to reach unrealistically high
The world will always tell you to add more
You divide yourself in an effort to find yourself
But the equation is simple:
God gave us names, not numbers
He does not count our mistakes,
He counts on us to do our best
And while numbers never satisfy
God always does
So step off the scale and put down your phone
You can't count on the world's numbers to stay the same
Instead listen to God
Because His scale to measure our worth is 100% accurate.
