All Encompassing Love
I'm back, and I'm here to write about something that I've really been thinking about.
The other day in Seminary, we were having a normal lesson and my teacher started to go off on a tangent, and she said that she hadn't plan on saying the things she was going to say, but she felt they were important, and it truly was an answer to my prayers.
She basically told us that absolutely nothing can exclude you from the love God has for you. She said "You do not have to earn God's love, because it is already there." And I'm sure we have all heard words similar to these, but this time really hit me. I've had a hard time lately with just trying to be good enough. Trying to please everyone around me, trying to please God, my parents, myself. And what would you know, I fall short every day, every minute. I got in my car after work the other night and all I could think of was how many mistakes I had made, how many orders I messed up, how many customers got mad at me. I've just felt like a failure.
And for some reason, I always felt that when I thought I was a failure, God thought I was too. And so when I prayed, I didn't think I was worthy of answers. Because God is too busy loving his awesome servants that he doesn't have time to think about the failures. BUT THAT IS SO COMPLETELY UNTRUE. God loves me when I'm buying flowers for strangers, and he loves me just the same when I'm crying in my room. The condition of your life does not qualify you for God's love. Conditions and situations change, but God's love is unchanging. No matter how much makeup you wear, no matter how much money you have, no matter if you devote your life to serving the Lord or not, God will always love you.
We have such a skewed understanding of love in our society. We believe that everything is earned. Girls think they have to look a certain way to get a boys attention. People think they can buy each others love with money and gifts. But love does not need to be earned. The fact that you are a living body and soul makes you worthy of love, and if anybody tries to tell you different then they are wrong.
You may feel that you are inadequate, you may feel that the world is not a better place with you in it, you may feel that you are a failure. But I promise you that God uses a very different scale than the world to measure your worth. God's love can permeate the darkest days, and it will again and again. Because his love is never ending and all encompassing.
